It isn’t all that long ago since Netflix announced that it was raising the price of its Standard and Premium Plans in the UK for new subscribers, and now it seems like its the turn of those with existing subscriptions to feel the pain. From October 3rd?, kicking back and bingeing on the new season of your favorite program is going to cost you an extra pound or two if you are signed up to the Standard or Premium Plans.
The price increase affects the Premium Plan that offers the option of downloading content to view offline, as well as the ability to stream Ultra HD movies and TV shows on up to four screens simultaneously. The Standard Plan that offers HD content on up to two devices simultaneously sees an increase from £7.99 to £8.99. The basic plan that offers standard definition streaming to a single device remains the same at £5.99. Premium Plan subscribers in the UK will see their price raised to £11.99 from £9.99 starting October 3rd while Standard Plan users will see an increase from £7.99 to £8.99.
Part of the reason for the increase is so that Netflix can raise more money for creating original content instead of increasing its level of debt. Netflix is also facing increased competition in the streaming segment as products such as Disney+ which comes online in the US for just $6.99 monthly.
