Google Maps has always had a pretty detailed, in-depth Street View layer when used on a desktop. Not only do you get more info out of it, but it's simply easier to use.
The Android version of the map still has Street View, but it's always been a little tougher to see where it's available since the app doesn't feature a filtering layer to see just where Street View works. The latest update for Google Maps on mobile seems to address that gap, though.
You'll now be able to use the action button to filter where Street View is available in Google Maps. That filter will highlight applicable areas in blue, and you can tap those areas and drop down into a street view to see the surrounding areas. Obviously Google will have had to take pictures and imagery of the street or location where you're looking, but Google Maps is pretty built up at this point, so that should still cover your favorite local spots.
The latest update for Android seems to have rolled out this new feature pretty widely, but iOS hasn't seen it just yet. Expect that to follow shortly.

TLDR google maps on Android added street view. I would have read the article in detail of the title of the click bait article said that but instead I glanced quickly till the end to see it was street view related.
