The crowdfunding campaign for Energizer's giant battery phone ran out of juice 2

Remember that gigantic Energizer smartphone featuring a ludicrous 18,000mAh battery that was shown off during MWC 2019 back in February? The same handset that then appeared on a crowdfunding site asking for $1.2 million in funding? Well, it turns out that not many of us were enthralled enough by the Energizer Max P18K Pop to bother supporting its Indigogo campaign.

According to The Verge, despite offering an early-bird price of $549 and promising that the phone would ship during October 2019, the crowdfunding campaign only managed to garner ten orders that added up to just $15,005 in funding. The Max P18K Pop was one of around 26 phones announced with Energizer branding and licensed by Avenir Telecom.

Besides the humongous 18,000mAh battery, the Max P18K Pop boasts or boasted, rather, a 6.2-inch display, MediaTek Helio P70 CPU with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage, a triple camera system on the rear, as well as a pop-up selfie camera.

It seems that the Energizer Max P18K Pop is proof that you actually can have too much battery life, especially if it results in holding a brick in your hand. It's unknown whether this was a genuine attempt by Avenir Telecom to bring the phone to market or if it was just a publicity stunt. Despite the headlines at the time, it seems that bigger isn't necessarily better and that the world isn't ready to carry bricks in their trouser pockets.

What did you think of the Energizer Max P18 Pop?
