Xiaomi's new 100W charging technology is the speed you need 3

Remember when it took three or more hours to charge your smartphone, and topping up for 20 minutes might give you just enough juice to get to work in the morning? Well, imagine that you could charge your handset from 0-100% in just 17 minutes, removing virtually every possible cause of battery anxiety. Better yet, there's no need to imagine it because this is what Chinese manufacturer, Xiaomi, has just demonstrated in a video posted on social media.

Xiaomi's video (posted on Weibo by the company's chairman – Lin Bin)) demonstrates an unspecified phone with a 4,000mAh battery using 100W charging technology and a phone with a 3,700mAh battery being charged using a 50W charging solution. The 100W charging method takes just 17 minutes to boost the 4,000mAh battery from 0-100%. This impressive feat means you could forget to charge your phone overnight, have a shower and make your morning coffee and still head off to the office with a fully charged battery.

With Huawei's SuperCharge and OPPO's VOOC charging technology taking over an hour to fully charge a 4,000mAh battery, Xiaomi's incredible 100W could revolutionize our pavlovian behavior when it comes to charging our smartphones.

There are a couple of big questions to ask; namely is it safe and when will it be ready for prime time? Is 17 minutes to charge a 4,000mAh battery quick enough to allay your battery anxieties? Let us know in the comments below.
