Samsung introduces new ISOCELL sensor for full-screen smartphone displays 4

We know more phones with hole-punch displays are coming, so someone is going to have to manufacturer the pieces and parts that go into those phones. Samsung likes to stay on top of the component game, so of course they're ready to deliver camera sensors for phones that opt for notchless, full screen displays.

The 20MP ISOCELL sensor is the smallest available on the market, coming in at just 1/3.4 inches. That small form factor will be perfect for razor thin phones, for both front and rear cameras.

But just because the sensor is small doesn't mean it's a slouch. It supports up to 20MP cameras and has 20-million active 0.8μm-sized pixels for exceptional clarity and low-light performance. It also incorporates Samsung's Tetracell tech in front cameras to further enhance clarity by combining four separate images into one shot, which another boon for night photography. When used in rear camera configurations, the sensor trades the Tetracell technology for an RGB color array filter.

Samsung expects to start shipping these sensors in the first quarter of the year.
