As Netflix pours more and more money into creating original content such as Stranger Things, Ozark, and Lost in Space, so the world's favorite streaming service needs to fill its coffers. As such, Netflix is increasing the cost of its subscription plans by 13-18% each month for its 58-million US-based subscribers.

The Basic plan has gone up by a single dollar to $8.99 monthly, while the Standard and Premium tiers have each received a $2 bump, bringing them to $12.99 and $15.99, respectively. The price increase affects new subscribers immediately and roll out to current members over the next three months. For perspective, Netflix last increased the prices of its two highest tiers back in 2017.
While Netflix is the go-to streaming service around the world, creating content isn't cheap, so the company will probably explore ways of creating new revenue streams such as video games and perhaps the ‘Ultra' tier that it tested over in Italy. The price increase only affects US subscribers for the moment although it will probably roll out internationally later this year.
If you are a Netflix member, let us know in the comments below if the price increase will cause you to downgrade or perhaps even cancel your subscription.
