Google Pixel 3 is the best scoring single lens Android phones from DxOMark 3

The Pixel 3 has a phenomenal camera, and if you've seen the photos you don't really need any numbers to tell you that. But if you do like numbers, you'll be interested to see that the Google Pixel 3 has taken the highest DxOMark score for all single lens Android phones with a score of 101.

Since Google doesn't use a second telephoto or depth lens it has to do all of its zooming and bokeh effects through software. That doesn't really seem to hamper it, either, and DxOMark even notes that the 2x zoom you get from the camera software almost matches the optical zoom from some other telephoto lenses. And while they do also mention how great Google's Night Sight mode is, modes like that don't count towards the overall score given to a phone. So yes, the Pixel 3 is actually a little bit better than its already high score gives it credit for.

With all of that being said, the Pixel 3 does still lag a bit behind other flagship phones with dual cameras, including the iPhone XS Max and Galaxy Note 9. Most of that discrepancy comes from portrait shots and other kinds of photography that really relies on the second lens, because as good as Google's software is there's still a small gap between software and hardware.

If you want to read up on the results and check how the phone compares to the iPhone XS Max and the older Pixel 2, check out DxOMark's write-up below.
