Google Chrome is getting a Sneak Peek feature for quickly checking links 4

Google is testing a new feature out for mobile versions of Chrome that will make it easier to check links without having to open new tabs or reload your current content. The feature is called Sneak Peek and will allow you to pull up a temporary tab of a link on top of whatever page you're already on so you can quickly hop back to your original page.

If you've ever been reading something and wanted to check out a link but didn't want to lose your place or deal with having to reload everything, you'll love this new feature. It'll also cut down on excessive new tabs for anyone that just loads those potentially interesting links in the background.

The feature isn't currently available in stable versions of Chrome, but the dev and canary versions have the flag that can be manually enabled. You'll have to navigate to chrome://flags/#enable-ephemeral-tab and enable the flag, then restart Chrome. Afterwards you'll be able to long press a link and “sneak peek” it, where it will pull up a floating, temporary tab on top of your current page. Once you're done with the link it goes away and you haven't lost your place.

It might be a little bit before this feature makes its way into the stable Chrome channel, but so far it seems mostly functional, so hopefully this isn't one of those things that gets massively delayed or scrapped entirely.
