Almost a month since it officially launched in the US, the mad ROG Phone gaming smartphone from ASUS is now available in the UK for a very reasonable price. Priced normally at £799, you can grab the ROG Phone for just £699 for a limited period from the official ASUS online store, with orders shipping from December 14th.
The ROG Phone features flagship-level specifications such as a speed-binned Snapdragon 845 processor running at 1.93GHz with a 3D Vapor Chamber, 8GB RAM, 128GB UFS 2.1 storage (up to 512GB in the US), dual rear camera setup and a fancy ROG logo on the back panel that lights up. There's a big 4,000mAh battery with HyperCharge technology that can achieve a 60% charge in just 30 minutes, as well as programmable ultrasonic touch sensors, or Air Triggers as ASUS calls them. Two of the sensors act as left and right triggers while the third is used when in portrait mode. You can check out the full specifications here.

If this isn't enough, you can get an external cooling AeroActive fan accessory that supports direct charging, HDMI output, Gigabit LAN, and a 3.5mm audio jack. There's also a Mobile Desk Dock to connect the phone to a 4K monitor, mouse, and keyboard that lets you turn the phone into a sort of gaming PC. There's even a TwinView dock that adds a secondary 6-inch display into the mix along with a quad-speaker system, two physical triggers, and an additional 6,000mAh battery. It's things like this that prove that ASUS has really put some effort and thought into making the ROG Phone a proper gaming smartphone. As you might expect, the accessories are sold separately, with no details on pricing available at the moment.
The gaming smartphone term has become a buzzword in recent times with unlikely phones such as the Honor Play and even the Galaxy Note 9 from Samsung hinting at gaming credentials. In reality, if you are in the market for a smartphone with proper gaming credentials, you only really have a choice of either the Razer Phone 2 or the ROG Phone from ASUS.
If mobile gaming is your thing, the first “limited run” of the ROG Phone is available in the UK for £699, giving you a saving of £100 over its regular price of £799, with pre-orders shipping from December 14th. What do you say?
