Sharp takes the joke too far, announces a phone with two notches 3

I'll be the first to admit that I don't really mind notches on phones, within reason. But that all pretty much goes out the window when talking about Sharp's newest phone, the Aquos R2 Compact, which features a notch on both the top and bottom of the screen.

Sharp's reasoning for this is that the notch on the bottom allows for a much smaller bezel while still making room for their fingerprint scanner on the chin of the device. Why they didn't just move the scanner to the back of the phone or opt for something under the display is beyond me, but now you'll have two cutouts to deal with.

I don't mind things on the status bar because the middle of the top of the phone is generally kind of useless anyway, except for a massive overflow of notifications that you should be clearing out. But right in the middle of your navigation keys? I'm not sold.

On the bright side the Aquos R2 Compact looks to be a pretty powerful device, sporting a Snapdragon 845 CPU, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. It also uses a 5.2-inch display, so if you want a smaller phone with flagship specs, this is legitimately one of the only options on the planet.
