OnePlus settles on October 29th launch date for OP6T to avoid getting juiced by Apple 3

October was already a crazy month for tech launches in the world of Android with the LG V40 ThinQ, Google's Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, Honor 8X, Huawei's Mate 20 Pro, the Razer Phone 2, and the ASUS ROG Phone having already been announced. If that isn't enough, Xiaomi is preparing to launch the Mi Mix 3 on October 25th, and OnePlus is announcing the OnePlus 6T on October 30th. Oh, snap, no they aren't because Apple has decided to hold its iPad event on the same date, which has resulted in OnePlus scrambling to launch its new phone a day earlier on October 29th.

With many having already made travel arrangements, the news that OnePlus has moved the OnePlus 6T launch date to a day earlier on October 29th came as a bit of a shock. OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, posted the following on the OnePlus forums as the reasoning behind the change:

“We couldn’t make this decision on our own. For hours, we talked to our press contacts to gain insight into how Apple’s announcement could affect the launch of the OnePlus 6T. We received considered, honest and thoughtful feedback. They showed us that if we chose to stick to our original timeline, launching the OnePlus 6T on October 30, we would be overshadowed by Apple.”

In a generous move, OnePlus has also stated that it will refund tickets for anyone unable to attend on the revised launch date as well as covering the costs incurred by amending airfares and accommodation.

“If you’re still able to join our event, first of all: Thank you! We will cover any costs you might incur to change your plans. If you need to pay to move your flight, we’ve got your back. Same goes for those of you who booked a hotel or made other arrangements. Our team will be getting in touch with all ticket owners individually to help you out.”

Credit where credit is due; it's fantastic news that OnePlus is providing refunds and covering the costs of changing travel arrangements, OnePlus has shown that they respect and appreciate their community.

Moving the launch date is an unusual if practical move, which might lead some to say that OnePlus is worried about the OnePlus 6T. What do you think about the OnePlus 6T launch being moved up a day to October 29th? Let us know in the comments.
