Sony has announced some new software updates that will be coming to the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra to deliver an even more premium audio experience for users. Sony's phones typically already try to offer better sound quality with the company's own ClearAudio+ and Clear Bass technology, but now the devices will also support High-Resolution Audio playback and will improve handling of your other lossless audio files.
High-Resolution Audio are music files sold separately from your standard albums on Google Play or iTunes. They're encoded in a way that they contain more information than even CDs, which turns into a better, more detailed sound. However, you need a device that's able to playback those files, and now more of Sony's Xperia devices will be able to handle that.
Aside from that both phones will also support DSEE HX technology which attempts to upscale your other lossless files into something similar to the High-Resolution Audio format. It only works with formats like FLAC and WAV that are less compressed than your typical AAC or MP3 files, but it will really open up the sound quality even while listening on your phone.
Again, this is all stuff that's definitely going to fly under the radar for non-audiophiles, but alongside LG pushing their quad DACs it's nice to see companies still taking audio seriously in a world where we're losing the 3.5mm headphone jack left and right.

Whatever happened to the XA2 Plus? Doesn’t it supposed to have a quad DAC or something like that?
