The notch is easily one of the hottest topics of 2018, with tons of people on both sides of the argument. Samsung is pretty much the only manufacturer that hasn't tried their hand at it, with almost everyone else offering some kind of phone with a notch somewhere in their lineups.
Huawei is guilty of this, but apparently they may have found a sneaky way to keep the advantages of a notched display without the notch itself.
This new design would have the front facing cameras resting in a hole in the display of the phone, completely surrounded by screen on all four sides. That's still effectively a notch, I get it, and you don't really gain any usable screen space back out of it besides swiping down over the camera to pull your notifications on screen. That's going to smudge the camera, though.

This leak unfortunately doesn't detail when we could actually expect the design to make its way to Huawei's phones, although they do still have a few devices slated to hit the market by the end of the year. We've seen no other leaks so I wouldn't bet a ton on this happening in 2018, but it's definitely something to keep an eye out for.
What are your thoughts on a display hole instead of a display notch? Worthwhile, or is it better to go the Essential route?
