Google Play services update fixes Chromecast Wi-Fi bug

Google is now rolling out a promised fix for Chromecast built-in devices, such as Google Home, Android TV, Chromecast, etc., to kill a bug wreaking havoc on Wi-Fi connections with slowdowns and even outages. Affected routers include those from TP-Link, ASUS, Linksys, Netgear and Synology.

The issue was described as one that in certain situations, a bug in the Cast software on Android phones may incorrectly send a large amount of network traffic which can slow down or temporarily impact Wi-Fi networks. The specific impact to the network will vary depending on the router.

If you haven’t received the update yet and are itching to watch a movie trouble free, you can download (sideload) the 11.9.74 beta from APKMirror here.
