There seems to be another Android device in the works at BlackBerry, and a launch could be imminent given the company referred to an unannounced phone in confidential material accidentally published online.
Hit the break for details.
A page on BlackBerry's site, which was obviously not meant to be published because of the “donotpublish.html” label, revealed that the company is planning to release the DTEK60 (codename Argon) just a few months after the DTEK50 was launched. The materials included exposed most of the phone's specifications, telling us that the DTEK60 will be a truly high-end version of its predecessor.
Key specifications:
- 5.5-inch Quad HD (2560×1440) scratch-resistant display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor
- 4GB of RAM
- 32GB of internal storage
- 21MP / 8MP cameras
- 3000mAh battery (Quick Charge 3.0-ready)
- USB Type-C port
- Fingerprint scanner
- Convenience Key
What's missing? A physical keyboard. The company's signature feature isn't going to be found on this phone, but that's only going to disappoint the obsessed fans. Everyone else will be fine with an on-screen keyboard as it's what we've had for over six years. Eventually BlackBerry loyalists will get over themselves and adapt to tapping a screen to type instead of physical keys.
Like the DTEK50, the DTEK60 is expected to be a repackaged TCL or Alcatel device with BlackBerry's branding on it.
BlackBerry is opting to let an outside company create its devices in an effort to save on manufacturing and allow internal resources to be spent on software.
