Just yesterday we reported on an image leaked by Evan Blass showing the Sony Xperia X Compact that is believed to be ready for an unveiling at IFA 2016. Up until now, no specifications for the device outside of a 4.6-inch screen were known. The same was true for another device, the Xperia XR, that is also believed to be ready for launch. Thanks to a site in the Netherlands, we have some new information on what kind of hardware to expect from Sony for these new additions to their X Series of high-end smartphones.
The Xperia XR, which appears to also be known as the Xperia XZ, will sport a 5.2-inch curved 2.5D display. Driving this will be a Snapdragon 820 processor matched up with 4GB of RAM. Sony is putting a lot into the cameras for this device, giving it a 23 MP rear-facing camera equipped with two LED flashes and laser autofocus capability. The front-facing camera will be a whopping 13 MP unit.
In what will likely be some good news for fans of smaller phones, the Xperia X Compact will reportedly also get the Snapdragon 820 processor. The only bit of disappointing news is that Sony may just put 3 GB of RAM on board the Xperia X Compact. With the high-end Snapdragon 820 chip, the Xperia X Compact should be competitive with leading, bigger, flagship devices. The device is also expected to come with a 2700 mAh battery, but we will probably have to wait for Sony's event next week to find out how long a charge is expected to last with the smaller screen.
Both devices are believed to come equipped with a USB-C port.
