Nexus – Google1

It's a little early for Nexus season, but here we have a leak hinting at the next manufacturer to be handed the honour of creating the next Nexus handset. In the recent past, we had the Nexus 4 and 5 being built by LG, with the most recent Nexus 6 coming courtesy of Motorola. But now, according to a post by Darren phone chips on Weibo, the Chinese micro-blogging site, it appears that a Chinese manufacturer might be given the responsibility for the next Nexus handset.

Next Nexus

It's anybody's guess as to who the mystery Chinese manufacturer could be. Lenovo, Xiaomi, ZTE, Huawei and Oppo are just some of the Chinese handset makers that have risen to prominence in recent times, it's difficult to pick one. One could point a finger at Lenovo because of its Motorola connection, although if pushed I might favour Xiaomi, simply because of Hugo Barra moving there from Google. One benefit of the next Nexus phone being built by a Chinese firm is that the handset could be sold at a cheaper price than the current Nexus 6 while still using flagship level technology. As with any unconfirmed rumour though, a pinch of salt is necessary, but it's definitely something to keep an eye on. Who knows? Maybe we'll find out more at the Mobile World Congress in just a few days time.

  1. Can’t be any worse than the crap they’ve been selling. I have a N7 made by Asus that’s a total piece of sh*t. Plus Asus customer service is absolutely the worse I’ve ever encountered. Happily have a Samsung tablet now and the quality differences are night and day. Can the Chinese do any worse than Asus? I doubt it.

  2. Haha, if this is true I think we can all skip that nexus.

Two companies with shoddy handset production and glitch OS iterations, your have more chance giving birth as a man than ever seeing your next nexus from them arrive or work out the box.
