Not to be confused with the Desire EYE, the HTC One (M8 Eye) was just quietly launched in China. The One (M8 EYE) is more like the original One (M8), with the major difference being that it doesn't feature the 4MP UltraPixel lens as part of the Duo Camera setup. Instead, the main lens loses the UltraPixel moniker, but it does jump to 13 mexapixels. However, selfie fans won't be too excited because it doesn't sport a 13MP front-facing lens (and dual LED flash) like the Desire Eye, but you get the full metal design of the One (M8).

Now we knew this phone existed, so I am not at all shocked by the release, but now that it has released, I have to vent a little. What the hell is HTC thinking? They have way too much confusion with their line again. What happened with the company that said they were going to simplify things a couple of years ago? How can you offer a Desire EYE that features a 13MP front-facing lens and a One (M8 EYE) with a 5MP front-facing lens? It's these kinds of things that keep HTC from getting anywhere. Confusion rarely equates to success.

Anyhow, the One (M8 EYE) is going for ¥ 3,999, which equates to roughly $650. The Desire EYE seems to be the better buy here. Yes, it's plastic, but the design is nice and you get the 13MP front-facer with dual LED flash. The only thing that's unclear is if either device has OIS, but I doubt it.

  1. Maybe because putting a ridiculous 13mp front camera and losing the fantastic front speakers on their flag ship phone would be a stupid idea!!!! Seriously how hard is it to figure that out
