Amazon has announced another tablet today to target the younger techies out there. The Kindle Fire HD Kids Edition offers two models—one at 6 inches, and another at 7—with prices at $150 and $190, respectively. This is a $50 surplus compared to the standard model, but it's hardly a waste. The childrens' model comes with a one-year subscription to Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, which gives you access to 5,000 videos, books, and games, a large case for extra grip and protection against little ones' small, slippery hands, and a two-year, no-questions-asked, worry-free warranty.
One thing that separates this latest attempt to bridge the gab between toddlers and technology is the specifications. “Fire HD Kids Edition is a real tablet, not a toy,” said Peter Larsen, Vice President, Amazon Devices. The quad-core processor, HD display, front and rear cameras, Dolby Digital audio all combine to make a device that's a tablet first, then a toy.
Lastly, the Fire HD Kid's Edition's parental controls are what further separate it from competition. Profiles allow you to have unlimited control on your own profile, while restricting usage time and access to certain apps on your child's.
