Leaker TKTechNews has some interesting information regarding the upcoming Nexus device, including its name (the Nexus X) and some possible features. However, be warned that there are some inconsistencies between what TK is reporting, and what we've heard in the past (specifically regarding display size), so take all of this with a grain of salt. Hit the break for the juicy details.
First, according to the above screenshot from retailer Fnac, the Nexus X (model number XT1100) will be made by Motorola, although the description also shows the LG Nexus 5's model number, so again, grain of salt. The product page is no longer on Fnac, so it is likely that it was either posted in error and then pulled, or is a fake and was never there to begin with.
Additionally, according to the source, the Nexus X will be available September 17th, a lot earlier than the late fall release typical of Nexus devices. TK also sources an internal Best Buy page that reveals the specs as follows:
- LMP Operating System
- 4G LTE Speed
- Google Now
- Moto Skip
- Moto Aware
- Color Touch Screen (really!?)
- 2.7GHz
- 5.9 inch Quad HD Display
Now, here is where things start to get kind of shady. First, the Fnac page claims the display is either 5.3-inches or 6.3-inches, while the Best Buy page allegedly claims the X has a 5.9-inch display. Additionally, the rumored inclusion of Moto Skip and Moto Aware is inconsistent with past Nexus releases which have run stock Android with no manufacturer modifications since day one. Finally, the price is set at €419.99 (roughly $550) which is a steep increase over the price of the Nexus 5.
While nothing excites me more than Nexus rumors, this batch leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Let us know in the comments whether you think this is the real deal, and if so, is this the new Nexus you've been waiting for?
