With the Galaxy Note 4 expected in just a few months, we are going to be learning more and more about the large handset. Today's news has to do with the Galaxy Note's most vital feature: the S Pen. A patent filing from Samsung reveals that they could be transitioning to a new technology.

Many devices that use a stylus, including the Galaxy Note, utilize a digitizer to pinpoint where the pen is hitting. The new patent filling reveals that the company is working with technology that uses ultrasonic sensors to recognize where the pen is located. With three of these sensors, the device can process two dimensional data and four sensors processes three dimensions. An advantage of ditching the digitizer is that it can make devices even thinner.

Being that this is just a patent filing, we cannot confirm whether or not this technology will debut with the upcoming Galaxy Note 4.
