Google announced some new features for Chromecast yesterday, including the ability to connect to devices that aren't on the same WiFi network. Turns out, the little device is going to use ultrasonic sounds to communicate with devices instead of the traditional WiFi connectivity. These sounds will be completely inaudible, so you won't have to worry about any high pitched buzzing noises, but it should also keep any strangers off of your device.
This new form of communicating with devices will anyone around you to stream content to the Chromecast without bothering with getting your WiFi password and setting things up. The owner of the Chromeast has to specifically allow this type of connecting, of course, but it removes a lot of the friction around sharing videos and content.
These new features should roll out to Chromecasts in the next few weeks.

Is there anyway to disable this feature? I have ultrasonic hearing and the chromecast sounds unbearable for me. It sounds like a spider alarm or a rat squeeking and it’s as loud as a police siren. This sound is far worse than most electronic devices and the chrome cast 1 only makes normal transistor noise which is bearable.
Is it safe for animals (except mosquitos ;) ) ?
So the chromecast has a speaker inside it? And nobody has noticed this?
