OnePlus continues to march toward a release of their CyanogenMod powered smartphone, the OnePlus One, during the second quarter of 2014. Certain to be a much sought after device by developers and others who prefer more control over their devices than the typical manufacturer allows, this same crowd is likely to be interested in rocking the latest hardware. When it comes to chips from Qualcomm, although powerful, the Snapdragon 800 is not the most recent release from the company. Instead, the Snapdragon 801 gets that label and is sure to be the chip preferred by buyers who want whatever is most “current.” With the Samsung Galaxy S 5 and the new HTC One getting the Snapdragon 801, OnePlus fans were crying out for OnePlus to do the same. It appears they have obliged based on their +OnePlus Google account.
The cover photo on the Google+ page for OnePlus was quietly updated to list the Snapdragon 801 processor as part of the hardware coming in the new device. The cover photo also includes spec data for a 3100 mAh battery, a 5.5-inch 1080p JDI Display, and a 6 piece 13MP camera. These could probably change as well as OnePlus seems to be receptive to potential buyer input, although it is getting rather late for adjustments to be made. The company passed the “feature freeze” date in their development cycle last month.
