Pebble lead software engineer Kean Wong has shed some light on what is going on with the 2.0 app and official appstore for Android. Neither has yet to make its way to the Play Store and the 2.0 app is still in beta. Wong says that Pebble is lacking the resources necessary to move along the Android version.

“In order to ship a high quality, reliable Android experience that will work for many thousands of users across the myriad of devices and operating systems, we need engineers working on the Android app who are both fantastic engineers and great Android developers,” says Wong. Furthermore, he says that the company has been hiring engineers that fit well with Pebble.

So when will both the new app and appstore arrive? Wong did not give any time frame. But it is encouraging that someone within Pebble, especially a software engineer, has decided to speak publicly about the holdup. Rather than rushing to launch a product, the company is taking its time to deliver a premier experience. All good signs for when both services launch.

  1. yeah. my pebble has been sitting here not getting used. it’s just an ugly watch with a pretty watchface. It can’t so anything my old casio can’t do. I got a new phone a month ago, and haven’t even installed the app.

  2. Sold my Pebble today. Probably some iPhone user since Pebble doesn’t fully support android. I can wait till a watch comes out that doesn’t neglect android.
