Xplana for Android makes life easier for students

Xplana has launched a new platform for students to ease the burdens of higher learning. The basic function of Xplana is to aggregate resources from the web and bring it all into one easy to understand platform that focuses on academics.

According to Dennis Flanagan, Chief Executive Officer of Xplana, ”First and foremost, Xplana is the only platform that focuses on the individual student and what he or she needs to support personal study activities. We focus on the needs of individual students and their informal learning activities. We built Xplana to address student work outside of the classroom, outside the LMS [Learning Management System], and outside the book.”

With the new app available for Android, students will be able to access materials, take notes and make annotation, and updates to the app will keep information synchronized.

If youre interested in creating a free Xplana account, simply click here to get started. Full presser after the break.

EDIT: After noticing nobody could access the app via the marketplace, I contacted Xplana, asking them were to acquire the app. In a response email, i received the following:

Unfortunately, our marketing team sent out the wrong press release earlier today. We are indeed developing an Android app for Xplana, but it is not being released with our platform this week. It will come out at the beginning of October. The release should have said “coming soon.” I apologize for any inconvenience.

Slightly disappointing, but keep your eyes here for any updates.

The Blackpad will be an Android tablet?

By now I’m sure you’ve all heard something about RIM’s forthcoming tablet commonly referred to as the Blackpad. What you may not have heard is that the device will be running an Android OS. That’s what manufacturer Quanta Computers is saying anyway. I don’t know about you but I’m gonna need to hear this one or two more times before I believe it.

What will happen to Verizon’s Android lineup if they get the iPhone?

As some of you may know, Verizon is “supposedly”  getting the iPhone next year. To back this up, it seems that Apple has just ordered a bunch of CDMA chips, which would allow the iPhone to work on Verizon’s network. For us Android fanatics, the iPhone coming to Verizon could mean one of two things.

The first scenario is that everyone with an Android phone on Verizon jumps ship to the iPhone, and it is the end of all Android phones on Verizon as we know it. This is not probable, however much Señor Jobs wants it to be.

The second scenario, however, is much more likely to happen. As most of us know, AT&T is not known for outstanding service, and I am willing to bet that if the iPhone came to Verizon, 75% of AT&T iPhone users would be willing to jump ship to a Verizon iPhone. The possibility that Android will suffer from a Verizon iPhone is unlikely, and here’s why: Read More…

T-Mobile sued for throttling data speeds on their “unlimited” plan

Another day, another lawsuit for a mobile provider.  T-Mobile is being sued by Trent Alvarez, who after entering into an agreement with the provider was told he exceeded a 10GB data allotment on his “unlimited” data plan.  The suit, being tried inYolo County, California, claims that T-Mobile’s advertisment of “Unlimited Web & Email” is misleading to consumers and falsely represents the data plan.  This draws comparisons to a 2007 suit against Verizon in which the judge awarded the plaintiffs $1 million dollars after claiming they were mislead by Verizon’s “unlimited” data offering.  While T-Mobile’s contract expressly states that they reserve the right to throttle data speeds, the argument will be made that users rarely read the fine print and that T-Mobile needs to advertise this policy more openly.

T-Mobile may fight back by arguing that exceeding 10GB is excessive, and may try to find instances of wrong doing in the plaintiff’s data history.  Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how the judge rules in this case and the impact it may have on similar suits in the future.   T-Mobile currently offers a variety of Android phones, including the myTouch and the new Samsung Vibrant, and their increasing popularity may cause T-Mobile to rethink their current data plan all together.

Droid 2 equipment guide leaked

It looks like the Motorola Droid 2’s Verizon equipment guide has been leaked, and it looks pretty good. By this point, we know most of the specs of the device, so this guide mostly confirms them, and adds the annoying things that Droid Incredible users, myself included, are use too (damn you, City ID). Take a look at the photo yourself, compliments of BGR.
