A Quick Peek at Toon Ball – Free Game in The Android Market

We here at TalkAndoid are often approached by developers with hopes that we will review their latest apps. I recently looked at the growing list and thought I would randomly check one out. A game called Toon Ball caught my eye with its quirky art and goofy looking camel.

After downloading the game I noticed that the camel really has nothing to do with game play and is just used as background art (and, in my case, successful advertising!). The mission of the game is to get the ball to roll past obstacles and traps by altering the path it takes. Relying on gravity, the ball rolls from the starting point once you initiate movement by breaking a wooden block or other object that is keeping the ball at rest. As soon as it’s off and rolling you have to act quick in order to complete your next move to keep the momentum going. Once the ball is static you have to start the level over.

Some levels only require you to break blocks that free up wooden planks and turns them into a ramp for your ball to travel across. Other levels require the aid of cannons, capturing your ball and shooting it off onto another path of your aiming. I found this part of the game to be quite difficult and if you miss-aim the first time there is no way to reload the cannon. Also, you only have a matter of a couple of seconds to alter the cannons trajectory before… BOOM! It’s too late.

The levels are set up like many other games in that you can return at anytime to try and best your score. Time is also a factor when racking up points so it’s best to have a game plan as soon as the clock starts. While the game is free in the Android Market it is supported by ads but, thankfully, the dev planned for them to show during the end of a round.

Hit the market link or QR code below to get the free download but don’t expect a mind blowing experience. Toon Ball is a good way to kill some time but I don’t imagine you will have a hard time not putting it down. It gets frustrating at times and looks like it may be in its early stages with some kinks that need to be worked out. Other than that it’s interesting and free so it may be worth checking out. Let us know what you think.
