Samsung announces their first Android Go device with the Galaxy J2 Core 2

Samsung doesn't always take advantage of all of Google's Android initiatives, but it looks like Android Go was tempting enough for the smartphone maker to at least test the waters of optimized, low-cost phones. Meet the Galaxy J2 Core, an affordable phone with all of the essential features we expect from a phone.

Android Go should, theoretically, help the device hold up with better battery life, more efficient storage use, and performance above its price tag.

It's a far cry from the recently announced Galaxy Note 9, but the Galaxy J2 Core is equipped with a 5-inch 540×960 display, a low-end Exynos processor paired with 1GB of RAM, a 2600mAh battery, and 8GB of internal storage. I know, that's not exactly exciting, but the Android Go edition of Android Oreo comes with fewer pre-installed apps and is just all around lighter on the hardware, so this should be a serviceable phone without breaking the bank.

On the network side of things, the Galaxy J2 Core offers an Ultra Data Saving feature that has several options and suggestions for minimizing your data usage. Coupled with the Go edition of some Android apps and you've got a very lightweight, minimal combination.

The Galaxy J2 Core hits India and Malaysia starting on August 24th, with new markets to be announced soon.
