These Huawei phones will be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat and EMUI 5.0 in 2017

It isn’t always plain sailing when you own a modern smartphone. If you purchased the handset on the wrong side of the curve or the manufacturer can’t be bothered, you could be stuck with a phone using an obsolete version of Android for a lengthy period. Owners of recent Huawei flagships though can breathe a sigh of relief because the Chinese handset maker has taken the wraps off its plans to provide an Android 7.0 Nougat (and EMUI 5.0) update for a selection of models. Join us after the break for more info.

The recently released Mate 9 is already running the Android 7.0 Nougat and EMUI 5.0, while the Huawei P9 is currently testing the update via a limited beta program. We now know that the P9 will receive the final release in Q1 of 2017. Other models slated to be updated in the same timeframe include:

It’s unknown whether older devices such as the P8 or Mate S will be added to the list or not, and the eagle-eyed reader will have spotted that the list only pertains to smartphones, there are no tablets listed. It’s likely that the list is just a starting point with other models to be added later on, but that is just a presumption on my part. The list of handsets was released by Huawei Italy.
