Honor, the Chinese brand that broke off from Huawei, has just released its newest flagship device, the Honor Magic 6 Pro. Besides being an absolute treat to look at, the spec sheet has plenty to put a smile on your face, especially with the cameras (AI, variable aperture, and 180MP telephoto, anyone?)

The Magic 6 Pro will also come with some AI goodness, baked not just into the software of the phone but its camera capabilities as well. Let's get into the details of this flagship.

The Honor Magic 6 Pro Is Official: The Specs Are Heavy-Duty

The first thing you notice about the Magic 6 Pro is how beautiful it is, particularly in the Epi Green colorway with its textured back and light accents. The screen is also a looker, with a “quad-curved floating screen” as Honor calls it. It has a long pill-shaped selfie cutout, as it packs a 3D TOF sensor alongside the 50MP selfie camera.

Speaking of the screen, it is a 6.8-inch 120Hz LTPO AMOLED FHD+ display, that can get as bright as 5000 nits when watching HDR content. The screen is protected by Honor NanoCrystal Shield, which Honor pretty boldly claims is the “industry's most drop-resistant screen glass”. That's an incredible claim to make, and we can't wait to see if it proves true. We'll wait for the slew of YouTube drop tests to pop up.

You'll get the expected culprit, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, running the show, paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. All of this is powered by a massive 5,600 mAh battery that can be charged with as much as 80W when wired (advertised as 0% to 100% in 40 minutes) and 66W through wireless charging.

The camera setup is very impressive, and a big upgrade over the Magic 5 Pro. The main camera is a 50MP sensor with a variable aperture (f/1.4 and f/2.0), a 50MP ultrawide, and a 180MP periscope telephoto camera with 2.5x optical zoom. It supports recording 4K footage at 60 fps.

Leap Into The Magic Portal: AI Shares The Spotlight

Artificial Intelligence is a big player in the Honor Magic 6 Pro launch, which shouldn't be a surprise considering how it is everywhere these days.

Their major software implementation of AI is what the brand calls “Magic Portal”. This puts AI to good use in understanding you as a user. Examples are how Magic Portal can see an address in a text message and easily redirect you to Google Maps, how it'll enable you to share booking details with a single action, or even let you seamlessly go shopping based on images like Circle to Search does.

We're in an Olympic year, and AI has come into the Magic 6 Pro camera system to improve imaging quality during sporting events — especially with fast-moving subjects. Honor AI Motion Sensing Capture claims to support more sports than the previous generation and was trained with a database nearly 30x larger. Whether you're at the Olympics or just a ball game in your city, it seems you'll be able to snap the action, even when things are moving swiftly.
