A new leak from Chinese social-networking site Weibo is showing that the next big flagship from Samsung, the Galaxy S8, is going to have some insane specifications.
Find out more after the break.
According to this report, the Galaxy S8 will be equipped with a 5.5-inch 4K display. We’re assuming that this is probably an “Edge” variant, given it’s sheer size. This might mean that Samsung will do something similar to the Galaxy S7 launch and offer two variants of the smartphone: one with an edge, another without.
Keep in mind that this isn’t the first time we’ve heard the 4K display rumors on the Galaxy S8. The big benefit would be more screen clarity and detail, but Samsung might be eyeing a 4K display on the Galaxy S8 to make the virtual reality experience with the Gear VR even better than before.
As far as processing power goes, we’re looking at two different chipsets this year, it seems. The Galaxy S8 could sport Qualcomm’s rumored Snapdragon 830 chip in some markets while opting for its own Exynos 8895 in other regions. Both processors are rumored to be based on the 10 nanometer (nm) process. The 10nm process with these chips is neat because Samsung 30% more transistors within the same area as a 14nm chip, which allows for a much larger cache, and ultimately, a faster smartphone.
No matter what processor variant the smartphone is equipped with, it’ll be paired up with 6GB of RAM, according to the rumor.
We should see the Galaxy S8 in just a few short months, as long as Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 investigation doesn’t delay it any further. Invites are supposedly already going out to some members of the press, inviting them to Samsung’s annual February event at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
