The next batch of Android Wear watch faces is set to drop in the fall, but instead of teaming up professional designers, Google is asking the internet to help design the new faces for its smartwatch platform. They've teamed up with PAPER magazine to run a competition that's open to pretty much anyone, which should lead to some unique watch faces.
The contest is simple. Design a watch face however you see fit, then upload it to Instagram with the hashtags #AndroidWear and #WearWhatYouWant. After September 15th, a panel from PAPER that includes some very high profile judges will select the best five submissions that will be available in Android Wear's fall fashion collection. It's easy to understand, and it's open to anyone, not just fashion designers. If you think you've got a good idea for a watch face, sketch it up and get it on Instagram for the world to see.
The first place winner of the contest will also win a few extra awards, including a trip to Paris Fashion Week, a mentorship with one of the panel's judges, and an unspecified Android Wear watch. No risk, high reward.
