With a strategy that seems to be the opposite of Huawei's, Archos have unveiled some upcoming devices less than two weeks before the hotly anticipated IFA 2014 event. In a press release sent out today, Archos revealed the 50b Platinum phone, complete with an unnamed quad-core processor, and an IPS display with “HD video encoding capability”. No word on RAM or internal storage but the 50b Platinum will come with three back covers in blue, black and pink and an 8GB microSD card.

The media-focused company also revealed a new Android-powered tablet that they're calling the Archos 101 Oxygen which has an ARM Cortex–A17 quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The display features a full 1080p resolution and as the name implies, 10.1-inches of real estate. Based on specs, neither device can really claim to be high-end, but they both seem to be competitively priced for the mid-range market at £119 (roughly $199) for the 50b Platinum and £199 (roughly $329) for the 101 Oxygen.
Archos has a reputation for making great media-centric devices and its safe to bet these new devices will follow suit. To round things out, Archos announced a couple of universal accessories including the Archos Music Light (a bluetooth speaker/lamp) and the Archos Music Beany which is exactly what you'd expect, a beany with headphones built in. As usual, discuss in the comments below.
