Readers who are into fitness and want to use their Android device to support their efforts have a new option available to them. Scosche has released their RHYTHM Armband accessory and related Android app to help fitness seekers improve their workouts.
At its core, the RHYTHM Armband monitors pulse and by extension, workout intensity. This is accomplished using a lightweight armband that you slip on your wrist and then pair with an Android device using Bluetooth. Once connected, the app starts collecting and recording workout data. If one is out running or cycling, the unit will provide a map and record the route. At the end of a workout, users can view a summary, save the record to a calendar view, and upload it to a special web site for later analysis.
Along with the workout functions provided by the app, users can also access and manage their music library. Using integrated buttons in the armband accessory, users can control the music with volume up/down, track forward/backward, and play/pause options. In an interesting twist, users can specify a special “power song” that can be triggered when they need a little extra boost during a workout.
As someone who uses their Android phone during workouts, the Scosche concept sounds like a nice solution that would consolidate many different apps currently used. However, while the app is free, the armband is $99.
If you are interested in trying it out, download the app using one of the download links below and hit the source link for ordering information for the armband.
