Over at LaptopMag, they have conducted a test on a variety of Android devices to compare battery life. Devices included in the test were:
HTC
- Incredible
- EVO 4G
Samsung
- Vibrant
- Captivate
Motorola
- DROID 2
- DROID X
Dell
- Streak
The results? According to the article, “Motorola’s two flagship phones, the Droid 2 and the Droid X, ruled the roost, but phones with attractive AMOLED screens clearly fell behind the pack. The worst phone for battery life that we tested was the HTC Droid Incredible, which managed an average of only 4 hours and 33 minutes, compared to the Droid X’s 7 hours and 42 minutes of endurance.” The full graph of results is seen here:

well, this battery test is performed by surfing web pages untill battery runs out, obviously the super amoled screens will drain the battery faster cause its displaying whites, but this is not nearly an example of everyday use battery life test. this should be called Browsing the web battery test and then the results would be accurate.
I have to agree.. these results seem a little skewed. My colleague has a Droid X and I have Captivate and he is always having to charge his. I rarely charge mine at the office. He complains about battery life all the time. I don’t think you can compare these phones in the way they did. They are comparing apples to oranges. In addition, I think that the UI has some pull on this too. If Samsung would drop their UI, I think they would see better battery life performance, as it has services running all the time in the background.
I have both phones and perhaps the strangest thing about these results is my experience with these phones; Captivate: 5-6 hours of constantly browsing on wifi, 3G, or Edge and I still have about 30% battery. I also suspect the brightness is not linear between the two types of screens; anyone have a photometer?
This doesn’t surprise me – battery life is just about the only disappointing thing about my HTC Incredible.
Id like to know what tests they conducted to get these results. I have a Vibrant and love the barry life compared to every other smartphone Ive had. Also, I work next to a guy who has the Droid X and he keeps his plugged in all the time. Me, not so much. We use ours about the same when it comes to music and surfing the web and that makes me think these results could be off a tad. Both great phones though.
I wonder how HTC Desire would do. Battery life is something Android phone manufacturers should definitely work on.
