S-Voice Pulled from the Galaxy S III, Download the App Now! 5

After the big Galaxy S  III announcement we knew it would only be a short amount of time before the cool software features were pulled from the phone for use across other Android devices. One of the more noteworthy GSIII features is the S-Voice app, basically Samsung’s version of Siri. Thanks to XDA member Ascarface23, we now have a working S-Voice apk that has been tested to work on various Android 4.0.4 roms across various devices. I was able to successfully install the app on my Galaxy Nexus running the latest AOKP rom and it has also been reported to work on CM9 as well. If you want to check out this great GSIII feature for yourself, grab the download below and follow the installation instructions for best results.

Download: voicetalk.apk

How to install: You can either install it through the Android package installer like any other 3rd party app but reports suggest it is better to install it as a system app. To install as a system app do the following:

  1. Make a nandroid backup! (just to be safe)
  2. Download the apk on your SD card
  3. Using a file manager, copy/paste into system/app
  4. Longpress the apk file from Within system/app, select “permissions” and change to r-w, r, r

UPDATE: If you are experiencing force closes or other issues after installing as a system app, try this route: After the app is installed, use a file explorer and navigate to system/app and press on the voicetalk.apk to reinstall again over top of the original install. Readers have reported that this helps with ongoing issues. (Thanks RubinRybnik!)

Side note: I should mention one thing from my brief experience with the app. Don’t try to change the wake up command because that will usually result in a force close situation and you will have to reinstall and start over. I would just leave it at “hi Galaxy” and just be happy that it works. :-)

  1. When i bought s3, the voice was the same like on this video. But now it has been changed to a woman`s robot voice! I would like to have woman`s voice the same like we hear on video, but i can`t change it back. I have tried everything on settings button (in s-voice, bottom, left), i have tried Language and input settings (on general settings) but nothing. What to do? How can i restore original settings? Thanks advance!

  2. Force stop for me … and then, when I try to re install the apk from the /system/app it says application not install.

    1. You fool, he did not say that Samsung pulled it from the next firmware update… he said its been pulled from the Galaxy S3 by someone at XDAdevelopers for non-Galaxy S3 phones, like HTC and other Samsung android phones… Learn to READ before you jump to conclusions!!

  3. Hey Guys and gls this working with ICS version 4.0.3. Or above . Not airlift with gingerbread period. I tried by different method with different devices.

  4. have a rooted samsung galaxy s2 with ics have 4.0.3 . i downloaded this apk to my sd card , opened root explorer navigated to were i had saved the s-voice apk file , copied it and navigated to “/system/app but my problem is i cant paste the 32 mb file as i only have 15.44MB free even though i have a like 16GB samsung galaxy with a 16GB memory card :( someone please help

    1. I believe those are a couple functions that aren’t working. I am unable to do either of those tasks too.

      1. Start with installing as a regular 3rd party app. If that doesn’t work, uninstall and delete. redownload and install as a system app.

  5. cant change the permission of the file on HTC one x.  However i run from “SD card”, it is ok.

  6. 1. i dont get where the “system/app” is please help me :( – Samsung Galaxy S2 Ics 4.0.3 Rooted

  7. Needs a speed upgrade…very slow for queries. Good start but really needs more work. Used on a GNEX(CDMA)

  8. This seems to be a reskinned Vlingo. What’s the difference between the two? It seems to require the same commands, and doesn’t allow as natural of a conversation style command. But that’s just me. I still don’t fully find the use of these types of apps. It’s more work for me trying to remember the correct commands than to actually do it myself.

    1. I totally agree with you. Next to that it is silly when it is crowded to talk to your phone. For me it is useless because you have to use the specific commands.

  9. Trying to install on EVO 4g but keeps saying there is a parsing error. I tried it as a normal 3rd party app then like it suggests above but it has the same result. Any insight?

    1. Same issue here. And did all that is says. Just to make sure, permissions should look like this: rw-r–r–, correct?

    2. Are you rooted? Did you try it as a system app and reboot? Other than that, since it was just released today I have no further troubleshooting info. You may want to hit up the xda thread for suggestions.

      1. i got that for a long long time… just copy and paste into data/app instead. works perfect. except that the app is buggy

  10. not real
opened up the APK, seems to have a bunch fo vlingo files in it too.

    Name: res/drawable-sw320dp-hdpi/vlingo_logo_color.png
    VLINGO_A.RSA
    VLINGO_A.SF

    1. Make no mistake, this is powered by Vlingo. It also uses Sensory for the wake up command. This is the real deal as it is found on the GSIII. I’m not sure why you would think it is fake?

    1. It will speak some answers back for you. For example, if you ask who the 43rd president of the United States is it will speak (and type) “George W. Bush.”

      1. I connected my phone to the computer, then copied the apk file over, then installed it, and its running on steroids as I rooted the app too
