It's a feature that many users have wanted for quite a while but its now possible to edit your WhatsApp messages to get rid of those nasty typos and add extra context. So long as you remember within 15 minutes of sending the original message you can edit it using the app on your smartphone. Open up the WhatsApp app on your device and select the chat that has the message you'd like to edit.

Next, you'll want to long-press the sent message that you'd like to edit (providing that it's within 15 minutes of being sent)

Tap on the three dot icon in the top right corner of the app and select the Edit option.

A text box will open up where you can change the contents of the message. Once finished editing, tap the Send button.

The message will be sent and you'll see an Edited label next to the message's timestamp.

It's that simple. So long as you catch the typo or other mistake within 15 minutes of sending it, WhatsApp will let you edit it.

For the moment, editing messages is only available on the Android and iOS apps, and not on WhatsApp Web. Neither is it possible on the WhatsApp for Windows app which will just say that that the message “can't be displayed here” and that you should open the app on your smartphone or tablet.
