The HTC U24 Pro launches in Taiwan today! “Official” technical information about the model, however, was leaked at least a whole day earlier, which not only includes the physical design of the model, but some of the most important specifications as well.

Externals of the unit were briefly leaked online through a poster yesterday (not counting older teasers), which showcased one of its color variants and the overall shape of the unit: a rounded middle frame, which is a departure from the flat design of its predecessor. Basically, the screen is curved on the sides, and this physical configuration adds to the premium feel of the device.

We can see the other side of the unit as well, as the pill-shaped black area housing two cameras is clearly visible, along with the third camera right below.

Leaked SoC Specifications

The visual leak was followed by a preliminary listing via GSMArena of the product, effectively “leaking” its specs very slightly earlier as well. According to the page, the U24 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, a dual-generation jump from the previous U23 Pro. Although still targeting the same mid-range tier, it is still a considerable 20% jump in compute performance, putting it head-to-head with the likes of Mediatek’s Dimensity 8100.

The SoC is supported by 12GB of RAM and two storage variants: 256GB and 512GB (UFS 3.1), with a microSD expansion option. A tiny bump, but an expected one within these product categories nonetheless.

All Other Leaked Information

The rest of the information about the U24 Pro was pretty much confirmed at its launch event the following day. For the cameras, it boasts a triple rear setup, consisting of a 50MP primary sensor with OIS and EIS support and an f/1.88 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 50MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. The front camera is then a 50MP unit housed in a centered punch-hole cutout.

Its display is a 6.8-inch full-HD+ (1080 x 2436 pixels) OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass protection. Nothing too technical here. Battery spec is rated at 4,600mAh, and supports 60W wired fast charging, 15W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging. The typical HTC charging option for modern phones.

Other notable features of the U24 Pro include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, A-GPS, BDS, Beidou, Galileo, Glonass, NFC, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The unit will also run Android 14 out of the box.

Leak and Rollout a Day Apart

The official rollout of the HTC U24 Pro was “pre-hyped” with official specs and external feature leaks ahead of launch, but only a day apart. Not the first time for such a development, but they were delightfully surprising nonetheless. While the upgrades were impressive, they still fall within the line of expectations of a mid-range product in 2024, so it is relatively on point with the current market competition.

In terms of pricing, the U24 Pro starts at TWD 18,990 (roughly $590) for the base 12GB RAM + 256GB storage model, while the 512GB storage variant is priced at TWD 20,990 (about $650). The phone is currently available for purchase in Taiwan, but there is no information on its availability in other global markets yet.
