Xiaomi is a popular smartphone brand all around the world, especially when you add their Redmi subbrand to the mix. Speaking of “mix”, The Xiaomi Mix line has always been where the company sticks its more experimental attempts at smartphones. Remember the original Xiaomi Mi Mix and its crusade against bezels?
The Mix line has also housed the company's foldables under the Mix Fold nomenclature. You might not have heard of these devices before though, and that's because they've never waded out of China, remaining exclusive to that country through three generations. The Mix Fold 4 looks set to be different.
The Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 Will Be The First Xiaomi Foldable With A Global Release
Foldable lovers, rejoice. The foldable market is more vibrant than ever, but we've been denied some awesome options due to China-only releases. However, thanks to early reports, it looks like the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4, the company's fourth foldable model, will be released globally and not just in China.
This is based on two model numbers seen in the GSMA IMEI database. Both are Xiaomi devices, but one ends with the letter “C” and the other with “G”, standing for “Chinese” and “Global” respectively.
If true, this would be awesome for people who want more flagship options in the foldable space. The Mix Fold will improve on many aspects of the Mix Fold 3, and that was a solid device. It folded to 10.9mm, had an 8-inch screen inside, and a 6.56-inch cover display. It could be specced with up to 16GB/1TB, came with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a 4,800 mAh battery, and a total of six cameras. So yeah, a proper flagship.
Some Specs For The Upcoming Foldable Have Leaked Already
Thanks to the famous Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station, we've got a good long look at some of the specs that supposedly belong to the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4. Unsurprisingly, the specifications of the device look high-end and will make the phone a good option for those looking for flagships.
It is expected to come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, along with 16GB/1TB (likely with lower storage configurations). It also looks like we'll get a better battery and charging specs with a 5,000 mAh cell, 100W fast charging when wired, and wireless charging. The main camera will be 50MP along with a new periscope camera that will improve on the previous model's module.
The phone is also expected to be water-resistant and come with an improved hinge design, a tougher device body, and a less noticeable crease. It will also have the capabilities for two-way satellite communication, but this will likely be a China-only feature.
When Can We Expect The Mix Fold 4 To Launch?
If we're to take anything from the phone's model number (2405CPX3DG) based on the previous report, the “2405” numbers may refer to a launch on May 24th. That doesn't seem improbable, so we'll keep waiting for that day to come around.
Xiaomi has also been reported to have their first clamshell foldable device gearing up for launch, and that'll be exciting to see too.
