The original OnePlus Watch came out in early 2021, rocking a proprietary OS and OnePlus charm, but through 2022 and 2023, a successor didn't come to the scene. However, 2024 is here, and OnePlus has just unveiled the OnePlus Watch 2 at MWC Barcelona.
This device has major improvements over the previous model, showing that the company spent its three-year hiatus well. Both the hardware and software get significant upgrades. And, OnePlus threw in a bonus, with a special edition 12R model that will appeal to the gamers in the crowd.
OnePlus' Return To The Smartwatch Market Is Official
OnePlus officially unveiled their OnePlus Watch 2 at MWC Barcelona, showing us what they've been working on for the last three years. One of the most notable things is that it runs Wear OS 4 instead of a proprietary OS, and that's particularly impressive because it marks only the third brand to run on the latest version of the OS after Samsung and Google.
Thanks to Wear OS, the software experience is bound to be a whole lot better than its predecessor, but the hardware is excellent as well. The chassis is stainless steel and meets military standards for durability, with a round display protected by 2.5D sapphire crystal. For sporty people, it has an IP68 weather-resistance rating and 5ATM water resistance.
Running the show are two chipsets: the Snapdragon W5 for performance and the BES 2700 MCU Efficiency chipset. This comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It also boasts a beefy 500 mAh battery that can be charged from 0% to full in just an hour. And speaking of the battery, that's one of the major selling points: OnePlus claims you'll be able to get up to 100 hours of usage in Smart Mode or two straight days with heavy usage.
What Features Does The OnePlus Watch 2 Have?
The OnePlus Watch 2 comes with a flagship performance and design, but it also packs a lot of features that make it worth having on your wrist, especially if you're fitness-focused.
Using the OHealth app, you can track more than 100 sports, such as running, skiing, tennis, etc. For sports like badminton, it can even detect the strength and speed of your swings! OHealth now supports Android 14's Health Connect platform, centralizing data from multiple health applications. Of course, sleep tracking also makes an appearance, and you can get data on your deep sleep, light sleep, REM sleep, snoring risk, and so many more variables.
Now that Wear OS runs the show on the Watch 2, you can take advantage of all of those Google apps like Maps, Wallet, Calendar, and Assistant, which can make your life so much more convenient when they're right on your wrist.
For The Gamers, The Special Edition Genshin Impact 12R Is Here Too
OnePlus has also announced the OnePlus 12R Genshin Impact Edition, which is great news for lovers of the character Keqing. The Genshin influence is shown in the Electro Violet design, the software, and the packaging, though the hardware remains the same. The etching used on the frame is called Electro Etching and can reflect “Keqing” onto surfaces when light is shone on it.
OxygenOS 14 is themed with new app icons, an exclusive charging animation, and many more aesthetic bonuses. The device comes shipped in an exclusive gift box with collectibles, Keqing-themed accessories, and more.
