Next on the Unpacked list of new devices is the Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic which launch running Wear OS 4.0 and a slew of new health tracking features. This time around there isn't a Pro model, but fans of Samsung's smartwatches will be happy to see the return of the Classic variant with its rotating bezel. With an improved processor, more memory, and the first to run on the Wear OS 4.0 platform, Samsung's new Galaxy Watch 6 series offer some useful improvements over the Watch 5 series.
Both watches run on Wear OS 4.0 which has Samsung's One UI 5.0 slapped on top, feature AMOLED displays, have access to popular apps such as WhatsApp, and new customization options. Even the strap mechanism has received a one-over and now features a neat one-button press to unattach it from the casing.
Despite the obvious difference between the two watches being the rotating bezel on the Classic, there isn't much difference in terms of hardware and both are powered by the Exynos W930 chipset.
The Watch 6 offers a slimmer design and is available in 40mm and 44mm sizing while the slightly chunkier Classic comes in 43mm and 47mm sizes. The 1.5-inch AMOLED displays are 20% bigger than on the Watch 5 series and offer up to 2000 nits peak brightness which means there should be no problems with direct sunlight.
Both 44mm and 47mm models feature 425mAh batteries with the smaller sizes sporting 300mAh units. Memory has been bumped up to 2GB with storage set at 16GB, and there's also support for Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, GPS, WiFi, and wireless charging. 5ATM water and dust resistance is also present.
As for software features, Samsung says you can expect the ‘best in class' in-depth sleep insights with reminders, tailored instructions, and tips on how to set the perfect sleep environment. Turning on Sleep Mode mutes notifications on the watch and your smartphone, dims the screen, and actives the invisible LED infrared sensor to deliver health insights without additional light distractions. It even triggers your smart home devices such as your lights and air conditioner to turn off for the night.
You'll get Sleep Score Factors that reveal the total time you slept, when you woke up, your sleep cycle, and your recovery stats. The Sleep Consistency function shows your sleep and wake times and awards you a cute Sleep Animal symbol that represents your sleep type.
You'll aso get access to health tracking features such as Body Composition measurements, Personalized Heart Rate Zone, Track Mode, Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification, as well as the ability to track your Custom Workouts. Fall Detection is also included, as is the ability to track your skin temperature.
The 40mm Galaxy Watch 6 comes in Graphite and Gold with the 44mm variant available in Graphite and Silver. The Watch 6 Classic can be had in Black and Silver in both the 43mm and 47mm sizes.
