Moto G Power

This week would appear to be Motorola week because after launching its new Edge 40 Pro flagship in Europe the smartphone brand has just announced the 2023 edition of its popular Moto G Power. And unlike the last version, this year's model includes all the upgrades you need and want, including more power, an improved display, and more capable cameras, all for just $299.

It's fair to say that the Moto G Power (2022) didn't excel in the performance department, mostly due to the low-end Helio G37 processor, which also lacked 5G connectivity. Thankfully, Motorola has addressed the issue and given the Moto G Power (2023) the power it deserves in the Dimensity 930 chipset which handily also brings 5G networking to the phone. There's a choice of 4/6GB of RAM and 128/256GB of built-in storage, plus support for MicroSD cards up to 1TB.

The display department gets a boost thanks to the 6.5-inch panel with FHD+ resolution, a 20:9 aspect ratio, and support for a 120Hz refresh rate.

The rear camera setup consists of a 50MP main sensor which is bolstered by a pair of 2MP sensors for macro and depth photography, with the front-facing camera making use of a 16MP sensor.

With a 5,000mAh battery, the phone is claimed to be capable of multi-day usage. It's unfortunate that while the Moto G Power 5G (2023) supports 15W charging, Motorola only includes a 10W wall charger in the box. Come on Motorola, really?

As with its predecessor, support for NFC is missing which means that you won't be using the Moto G Power 5G for making mobile payments. And, despite sporting a ‘water-repellent design', Motorola didn't see fit to get the handset IP-certified. It does have a fingerprint sensor, though, as well as support for Bluetooth 5.3 and stereo speakers. The phone also runs Android 13 out of the box.

In the U.S., the new Moto G Power 5G (2023) will be available universally unlocked at Best Buy, Amazon.com, and Motorola.com starting April 13 (MSRP: $299.99). The device will also be available at Metro by T-Mobile, Spectrum Mobile, and Xfinity Mobile in the coming months.
