Q1 is a time for flagship smartphones to be announced and today brings news that the Xiaomi 13 series, already unveiled in China, will have its global launch at MWC 2023 on February 26. Consisting of the 13 and 13 Pro, the new range of flagship phones will offer a viable alternative to Samsung's Galaxy S23 series.
Powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, the Xiaomi 13 series will benefit from flagship performance and battery life. The smartphone maker partnered up with the Leica camera brand a while back and this means that the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro will sport cameras tuned to Leica's specifications.
The 13 Pro is the larger of the two handsets with its 6.73-inch OLED display which has curved edges, QHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, a 4,280mAh battery, and speedy 120W fast charging. It also packs in a beefier camera solution compared to the vanilla model thanks to its 50MP main camera (IMX989) which has a big 1-inch sensor and Xiaomi's HyperOIS technology. Two more 50MP sensors are present, one of which is an ultra-wide lens and the other being a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.
Other notable features include the presence of IP68 water and dust certification, 50W wireless charging, as well as 10W reverse wireless charging. Speaking of charging, the phones have custom Surge battery management chips for increased safety. Elsewhere you'll find the presence of WiFi 6E connectivity, dual speakers, and there's even an IR blaster for those that keep losing their TV remote.
The regular Xiaomi 13 makes do with a 6.39-inch OLED flat display which has an FHD+ resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate. There's a larger 4,500mAh battery which supports the still speedy 67W fast charging. On the camera front, the Xiaomi 13 also has a 50MP main sensor but this time it's the less-capable IMX800 unit with HyperOIS support. The other cameras consist of a 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.
Basically, there's a lot to look forward to when the Xiaomi 13 series is announced on February 26 at MWC 2023.
