Short answer: In late 2026 there are three separate Call of Duty products to keep apart. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (released October 23, 2026) runs on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2, not on Android or iOS. Call of Duty: Warzone, the free battle royale, integrates MW4 content from Season 1, and its support on PS4 and Xbox One ends when MW4 Season 1 launches. On phones, the game is Call of Duty: Mobile on Android and iOS, with its own Multiplayer and Battle Royale and controller support in matches. Warzone Mobile shut down on April 17, 2026. These products don't share one cross-play pool, so the right choice depends on your device and who you play with.

Last checked October 26, 2026, against Activision's announcements, support pages and season posts. Platform support changes quickly; dates below are as of that check and will be re-checked when MW4 Season 1 launches.
In one line: Google Play / App Store → Call of Duty: Mobile (not MW4).
If you're on Android: quick answers
| Question | Answer |
| Can I play Modern Warfare 4 on Android? | No. MW4 is on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2 only |
| What's the Call of Duty game for Android? | Call of Duty: Mobile, free on Google Play |
| Will my phone run it? | Activision's official minimum is Android 6.0 and 2 GB of RAM. That's a minimum to launch, not a guide to smooth performance; check compatibility on the Play Store listing |
| Can I use a controller? | Yes, in Multiplayer and Battle Royale matches. Menus and lobbies still need touch. Check Activision's current supported-controller list before buying one |
| Can I play with friends on iPhone? | Yes, within Call of Duty: Mobile |
| Can I play with friends on PS5, Xbox or PC? | Not in the same match if they're playing MW4 or Warzone. Your friend would need Call of Duty: Mobile on their own phone |
| What about cloud streaming? | Streaming a console or PC game to your phone isn't a native Android app. Whether a given game is available depends on the service's catalog, and it needs a strong connection |
The separate Call of Duty products
| Product | What it is | Price model | Current state (Oct 2026) |
| Modern Warfare 4 | 2026's premium release: Campaign, Multiplayer, DMZ | Paid | Released October 23, 2026 |
| Warzone | Free battle royale shared across recent premium games | Free-to-play | MW4 integration from Season 1 |
| Call of Duty: Mobile | A standalone mobile game with its own maps, modes and seasons | Free-to-play | Season 9, “Vampires vs Werewolves,” live since October 14, 2026 (as of Oct 26) |
| Warzone Mobile | A former mobile version of Warzone | — | Shut down April 17, 2026; removed from stores in May 2025 |
Black Ops 7, the 2025 premium release, remains playable on its platforms but doesn't affect the choice on Android.
If you want a native Call of Duty game for Android, Call of Duty: Mobile is the relevant current option; it is not a port of MW4 and doesn't share MW4's matches.
Platform availability
Modern Warfare 4
From Activision's announcement:
- Consoles: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2
- PC: Battle.net, Steam, or Xbox on PC (Xbox Play Anywhere)
- Not available: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Android or iOS
- Switch 2: developed natively by Infinity Ward with Digital Legends, not streamed
Warzone
From Activision's Warzone platform update:
- Current platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with MW4 integration in Season 1.
- PS4 and Xbox One: Warzone was delisted from PS4 and Xbox One storefronts on June 4, 2026. Existing owners can continue playing through the end of Black Ops 7 Season 06; Warzone support on those consoles ends with the launch of MW4 Season 1. The in-game store on those consoles closed on June 25 (Game Informer).
- Switch 2: Activision lists Switch 2 for MW4 but hasn't announced Warzone for it.
Call of Duty: Mobile
From Activision's Call of Duty: Mobile FAQ:
- Android: Android 6.0 or later, at least 2 GB of RAM, free on Google Play
- iOS: iOS 15.0 or later, at least 2 GB of RAM, free on the App Store
- Seasons: roughly monthly; Season 9 launched October 14, 2026 with Halloween modes and a new Battle Pass
Cross-play: who can join the same match
| Product | Cross-play | Source |
| MW4 | Across PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Infinity Ward stated that the Switch 2 version supports cross-play with the other MW4 platforms (“Right now we support crossplay between Switch 2 and the rest of the platforms”). We have not independently verified every launch-day cross-play setting on Switch 2; check the current in-game options and Activision support notes | GamesRadar interview |
| Warzone | Cross-platform across its supported consoles and PC | Activision platform update |
| Call of Duty: Mobile | Between Android and iOS. Not with console or PC Call of Duty | Separate game; the official FAQ lists mobile platforms only |
| MW4 and COD Mobile | No shared matches | Different games |
Practical example: an Android player using Call of Duty: Mobile cannot join a friend playing Modern Warfare 4 on PS5 in the same match. They can play together if both use Call of Duty: Mobile on compatible phones, or if both use the same supported console/PC Call of Duty title. Having the same Activision account doesn't merge COD Mobile and MW4 queues.
Settings: recent Call of Duty games offer a cross-play option in their settings; check MW4's menu on your platform for the exact options.
Input and controllers
| Call of Duty: Mobile | MW4 / Warzone (console) | MW4 / Warzone (PC) | |
| Default input | Touch | Controller | Mouse and keyboard, or controller |
| Controllers | Supported in Multiplayer and Battle Royale matches; menus need touch | Native | Supported |
| Screen | Phone or tablet | TV, or handheld on Switch 2 | Monitor or PC handheld |
Call of Duty: Mobile supports compatible controllers in Multiplayer and Battle Royale matches. Controller support does not cover every menu: you may still need touch controls for lobbies, loadouts and settings. Check Activision's current supported-controller list before buying a controller specifically for the game (Activision Help Center). When Activision introduced controller support, it said controller players are matched with other controller players, and a party with one controller user is matched as a controller party (Activision, 2019); check the Help Center for the current rule.
Why it matters: phone players moving to console or PC face a real adjustment in aiming and movement, and the reverse is true too.
Account progression
PC and console progression
- Across platforms: your eligible progression can follow your linked Activision account across supported platforms. COD Points balances are tied to the platform, and some content bought with local currency is restricted to a platform family (Activision platform update). Check the current rules for a specific item before switching.
- MW4 and Warzone: MW4 shares eligible overall progression with Warzone once Season 1 integration begins, but MW4's DMZ also has a separate progression track. Earning Multiplayer or Warzone XP does not level up your DMZ-specific progression (Activision progression guide).
- Camos: Military and Special camos are shared between MW4 Multiplayer and DMZ, with Warzone joining in Season 1.
- Leaving PS4 or Xbox One: Activision says remaining COD Points, purchased Battle Pass content, progression and most local-currency content carry over to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S when you keep the same Activision account.
Tip: link your console and PC platforms to one Activision account before you start MW4, so eligible progress follows you if you switch devices.
On PC and console, MW4's Multiplayer, DMZ and camo progression are where many players invest their time. Some players look at a COD Boosting Service when comparing progression options in MW4 and Warzone; such services don't cover Call of Duty: Mobile. These are third-party services, not affiliated with Activision; eligibility, account access requirements, and compliance with game rules depend on the specific offer.
Mobile progression
- Call of Duty: Mobile has its own progression, Battle Pass and Challenge Pass. Activision doesn't describe it as sharing progress with MW4 or Warzone.
- Switching between Android and iPhone: if you move between Android and iPhone, use the same supported Call of Duty: Mobile account sign-in method and verify that your progress is linked before changing devices. A guest account may be harder to recover. Check Activision's support pages for the current linking steps.
- Warzone Mobile: ended with the shutdown, along with its real-money purchases.

| Nintendo Switch 2 in handheld mode | Modern Warfare 4 | Native console version; developer-stated cross-play, launch settings not independently verified |
| PC handhelds | MW4 (PC version) | Where supported; check performance and anti-cheat compatibility for your device |
| Cloud streaming or remote play to a phone | Depends on the service | Not a native Android game; check the catalog and your connection |
Among dedicated consoles, Switch 2 is the one with a native MW4 version you can play handheld; PC handhelds and streaming are different categories.
Checklist: which one should you install?
- Only have an Android phone or iPhone? Install Call of Duty: Mobile.
- Want a controller on your phone? Check the supported-controller list; menus still need touch.
- Want the new campaign or DMZ? Buy MW4 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC or Switch 2.
- Want free battle royale on console or PC? Download Warzone.
- Still on PS4 or Xbox One? Warzone support there ends at MW4 Season 1; MW4 isn't available there.
- Playing with friends? Make sure you're all on the same product, not just the same franchise.
- Switching devices often? Link all platforms to one Activision account.
If you're comparing third-party progression help for console or PC, service sites such as https://xboosty.com list their formats; none of them applies to Call of Duty: Mobile, and Activision's rules apply either way.

Will my MW4 progress carry over between PS5 and PC? Your eligible progression can follow your linked Activision account across supported MW4 platforms. However, your COD Points balance is generally tied to the platform on which the Points were purchased or earned, and some purchases are platform-family restricted. Check Activision's current cross-progression rules for the specific item before switching devices.
