It's been two months since OnePlus's July 2026 exit from North America and Europe, where the company now offers only software support for existing devices. Now, the OnePlus 16 has been officially confirmed by executive Liu Baoyou at the Snapdragon Gaming Technology Awards in China.
It'll be the brand's first flagship built entirely for a post-exit collection focused on China and India. Here's everything we know about the smartphone so far.
OnePlus 16 is a starry vision for sore eyes
In July 2026, OnePlus announced it was pulling out of North America, Canada, and Europe as active markets, meaning no new phone launches there. There would only be continued software updates and service support for people who already own its devices.
The company said it would concentrate fully on China, its home market, and India going forward. This came after OnePlus had already fully merged into its parent company, OPPO, in recent years.
OnePlus executive Liu Baoyou confirmed the OnePlus 16's existence in a post on the company's Weibo account. He specifically mentioned that the device has a 165Hz display and an unspecified gaming-focused technology as headline features.
OPPO's reservation site and OnePlus's own site have even opened bookings in the country. The confirmed colorways are Dark Forest, Tomorrow's Starlight, and Mars/Martian Masterpiece.
The Tomorrow's Starlight version has the number 16 and a set of celestial coordinates etched into the back panel called the Interstellar Light Effect. Unlike Nothing's separate strip of LEDs, and other notable mobile rear light systems, OnePlus's version seems to be baked into the glass itself, so the logo and coordinates glow.
On top of that, the back has a nano-grating texture that catches light and creates a moving starlight shimmer whenever you tilt or rotate the phone, with or without the glow.
Again, the rear design retains the squared-off camera module in the upper-left corner with three lenses and an LED flash, and heavily rounded corners. However, there's reportedly a customizable AI button on the left edge.
The 16th time's the charm in performance
Memory configurations for the OnePlus 16 include 12GB/256GB, 12GB/512GB, 16GB/512GB, and 16GB/1TB. The phone will use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset.
However, Qualcomm itself hasn't formally announced the chip as of this writing. The hints came from a recent Geekbench listing for the phone that names the chipset as QTI SM8975, a model number belonging to Qualcomm.
That aside, the battery capacity is a massive 9,000mAh, up from the OnePlus 15's 7,300mAh. OnePlus used Glacier Battery tech, a silicon-carbon cell developed with Chinese battery maker CATL. It was first introduced in 2024 on the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro and is not exclusive to the OnePlus 16.
Silicon can hold far more lithium ions than graphite, but on its own it swells and degrades quickly. OnePlus blends it with carbon to control the expansion while ensuring the battery has extra capacity.
The result, per OnePlus's own figures, is an energy density of 763 Wh/L, about 23.1% higher than a standard graphite battery. Before the company's announcement, the upcoming phone's performance leak surfaced three days prior.
India-based tech content creator Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) shared the screenshots on X. A benchmark under the device name OnePlus PYB110 scored 3,073 on the single-core test and 11,093 on the multi-core test.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro also appeared on the listing with the same QTI SM8975 model number. It's an 8-core design across three clusters: 3 cores running at 3.74 GHz, 3 cores at 4.03 GHz, and 2 prime cores at 5.01 GHz. The chip is paired with the Adreno 850 GPU and is Qualcomm's newest. There's no word on the phone's release date yet.
