Google is finally entering the laptop business in a more serious way since the Chromebook. We have yet another first look, thanks to the flurry of leaks since the company's plans started as a rumor.
The latest leak comes from tech blog The Mac Observer, which obtained exclusive images and a full specifications sheet for the Lenovo Googlebook 15.
The Googlebook 15 is definitely not a Chromebook
The upcoming Lenovo Googlebook 15 is a metal unit featuring a large 150mm x 95mm haptic trackpad. It comes in Cloud Grey, weighs 1.29kg, and its dimensions are 341 x 236 x 15.9mm. It also carries a 70Wh battery rated for up to 11 hours of video playback.
It uses the Intel Core Ultra 5 325 processor paired with 16GB or 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. Google already has Android and ChromeOS in its portfolio, so the natural question is what the new operating system is and how it differs from either.
The new platform is codenamed Aluminium OS and merges both under Googlebook OS. It was introduced at The Android Show on May 12, 2026, as Android rebuilt for the desktop to eventually succeed the consumer Chromebook line.
The computer's display is a 15.3-inch OLED touchscreen running at 2880 x 1800 resolution with a 16:10 aspect ratio, a 120Hz refresh rate, 500 nits of brightness, and 100 percent DCI-P3 color coverage.
It features thin side bezels, with a slightly raised section housing a 5MP RGB webcam with dual microphones and a physical privacy shutter. Audio comes from four speakers tuned with Dolby Atmos, with speaker grilles sitting on either side of a backlit keyboard.
The keyboard includes a dedicated Google “G” key positioned between the Fn and Alt keys on the bottom row. While Google has not officially confirmed its role, it most likely serves as a dedicated Gemini shortcut, where a single press launches the assistant or triggers on-screen AI assistance from anywhere in the system.
The Glowbar, a design cue shared with the Pixel 11, is a narrow multicolor light strip running along the top edge of the laptop's lid near the hinge. Lenovo notes that it provides an at-a-glance readout of battery and charging status.
Google's laptop launch is around the corner
Lenovo is preparing a Googlebook AI Mouse as an official accessory for the Googlebook 15, complete with the same multicolor Glowbar accent. The accessory will also come alongside the Lenovo E310 True Wireless Stereo Earbuds and a Lenovo 540 Convertible Tote Backpack.
Google has confirmed that preorders for the laptop open on Monday, September 21 at 9:00 AM Eastern Time (ET). If you registered on the Googlebook preview webpage, notifications will begin rolling out this morning to all subscribed users.
Beyond Lenovo, companion devices from Acer, Asus, Dell, and HP will also be available. Exact retail pricing has not been announced, but analysts expect configurations to sit well above standard Chromebook Plus tiers, competing directly against premium Windows ultraportables and MacBooks starting upwards of $600 to $800+.
