The Long-Awaited Return of Good Omens
Over the past several years, Prime Video subscribers have waited anxiously to find out what would happen next in a series that earned a 4.1 out of 5 rating on Allociné, the major French review site. That series is Good Omens. The end of season 2 aired three years ago, leaving viewers reeling: Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) went back to Heaven, leaving Crowley (David Tennant) alone in the streets of Soho.
A Final Chapter for the Angel and Demon
Adapted from the beloved novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, Good Omens returned on May 13, 2026, not with a full season, but with a single 90-minute episode, created to offer true closure to the story of this unlikely duo of angel and demon.
The road to this finale was far from straightforward. Neil Gaiman left the project after allegations of sexual assault were made against him—claims he has firmly denied. He contributed to writing the finale, but did not take part in its production, and his company, Blank Corporation, was not associated with the episode. A Vulture article published in January 2025 reported that nine women shared testimony against Gaiman.
“We were both relieved to have finished the story, but in a really difficult, complicated, and unsettling context. I hope people will get to see it, but that depends mostly on decisions beyond our control.”
The Plot: Can the World Be Saved?
The synopsis reveals that Aziraphale, now promoted to Supreme Archangel, is tasked with overseeing the Second Coming—a weighty responsibility, one made more complicated by the fact that his plans alarm and unsettle his fellow angels.
The episode draws from ideas imagined decades ago by Gaiman and Pratchett about the possible futures of their characters. Rachel Talalay, known for her work on Doctor Who, directed the finale after longtime director Douglas Mackinnon departed the series.
Returning Cast and Key Roles
Michael Sheen and David Tennant reprised their lead roles, joined by Derek Jacobi, Doon Mackichan, Liz Carr, and Bilal Hasna as Jesus. The finale is now available on Prime Video, where viewers can find out for themselves whether the world is truly worth saving.
