The Danish Noir Returns
Five years after its debut—which earned a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes—Netflix brought back ‘Octobre' for a second season. The story is inspired by the novel of the same name by Søren Sveistrup, published in 2025. Fans of ‘The Killing,' also created by Sveistrup, will recognize the same dark, moody atmosphere that put Nordic noir into the global spotlight.
A Lean, High-Stakes Investigation
For viewers with little free time, ‘Octobre' Season 2 is an ideal choice. The six condensed episodes deliver a dense story and build suspense with every minute. Detective Naia Thulin, played by Danica Curcic, returns alongside Mark Hess, portrayed by Mikkel Boe Følsgaard. Hess, now with Interpol, is back in the area to care for his brother, who was hospitalized after a brain hemorrhage. Although Thulin and Hess haven't seen each other for years, the case forces them to team up again.
Their relationship stays difficult—a mutual attraction lingers, but their focus must stay on the investigation. This season, they search for a missing 41-year-old woman. The case quickly escalates into far more troubling territory.
A Chilling Cat-and-Mouse Game
As Naia and Mark review the missing woman's online activity, they discover she was stalked methodically for months. The person harassing her sent images and increasingly persistent photos and videos. Each disturbing message was paired with a nursery rhyme about birds.
Once the victim is found murdered, the investigation widens. The detectives suspect a connection to the unsolved murder of a 17-year-old high school student killed two years earlier. A macabre link begins to form between the cases.
More people come under threat from the same stalker. Thulin and Hess race to prevent additional victims, but the killer’s motives remain unclear and no one can say who will be targeted next. The stalker enacts a sinister plan, stalking his targets with precision and sending rhymes that seem to foreshadow each grim step, keeping the tension high throughout the season.
Dark Twists and Classic Crime
Is this the work of a serial killer? What connects the victims? These questions haunt both investigators and viewers. The series is careful in how it unveils shocking twists, using misdirection and unexpected scares to heighten unease. Predicting the next twist is nearly impossible.
Fans of ‘The Killing' may notice a familiar face: Sofie Gråbøl, who played Detective Sarah Lund in 2011, appears as a desperate mother—a nod strengthening the show’s roots in Danish crime storytelling.
With its short format and relentless story, ‘Octobre' Season 2 is the ideal police series to add suspense this spring on Netflix. The six tightly scripted episodes provide no relief, and most will find it impossible to stop watching before the end.
