This year, Google’s primary Android event streamed live on YouTube, held exactly one week before the Google I/O 2026 conference on May 19 and 20. This format, introduced in 2025, lets Google separate headline consumer Android announcements from the deeper, developer-oriented sessions at I/O. Aluminum OS: Android and ChromeOS Join Forces

Aluminum OS is designed to directly compete with Windows and macOS. Smart Glasses: Android XR Moves Forward
Android XR-powered smart glasses have taken center stage in Google’s wearables push. After their first prototype showcase at I/O 2025 and a recent appearance at MWC 2026, these connected glasses could reach a new milestone at the latest Android Show.
Google has partnered with Warby Parker, Gentle Monster, and Samsung to design the frames. Two versions are reportedly in development: one focused on hands-free voice interaction with Gemini and another featuring a discreet built-in display enabling real-time navigation and translation directly within the user’s eyeline. According to current information, only the screen-free, voice-first model is planned for release in 2026.
