Just as the spring holidays approached, Netflix gave subscribers even more reason to settle in for a streaming marathon. This spring 2026, the platform has rolled out highly anticipated new titles, including a Stranger Things spin-off, the second season of La meneuse, and a gripping new thriller, Unchosen, which has quickly become one of the most talked-about releases of the month.

What is Unchosen about?

Unchosen premiered on Netflix on April 21, 2026, releasing all six episodes at once. Created by Julie Gearey, the series stars Asa Butterfield, Molly Windsor, and Fra Fee and takes viewers deep inside the hidden world of a strict, isolated religious cult.

The plot centers on Rosie, a woman living with her husband Adam (played by Asa Butterfield) within this closed community. After their daughter is rescued from drowning by a mysterious fugitive, Rosie starts to question the community's oppressive rules. The stranger’s arrival sets off a chain reaction of secrets, tension, and a growing urge to escape, gradually revealing the community’s darker side.

Originally a mini-series—could a season 2 really happen?

Unchosen was introduced as a one-off mini-series. But after quickly climbing to the number 2 position among Netflix’s top 10 most-watched shows and earning a 3.3 out of 5 rating on the French review platform Allociné, speculation about a second season has taken off. For fans, Unchosen has proved to be one of the breakout sensations of April.

What’s the word on a potential return?

Netflix has previously renewed limited series for follow-up seasons, as seen with Squid Game and Beef (originally Acharnés in French), even though those shows were initially not supposed to continue. Could Unchosen follow a similar path?

There’s reason for cautious optimism. According to Fra Fee in an interview with Collider, the team behind Unchosen could be open to revisiting the story if the response continues to be strong. When asked about his character, Fee shared that although his character Sam receives a happy ending—one that he feels maybe wasn’t entirely deserved—he’d be eager to return if there’s more story to tell:

I’d love to continue telling Sam’s story, simply because I haven’t played such an intense character in a long time. The ending is satisfying, and I think if the series wraps up that way, it’s satisfying. On the other hand, if the series turns into a huge success, I’m sure they’ll want to keep going. I think Julie Gearey probably already has ideas.

Stay tuned

With strong ratings and buzz, Unchosen has captured plenty of attention this spring. Whether it remains a one-off or becomes the next Netflix series to get an unexpected second season, fans will be watching closely for updates. For now, Unchosen remains one of the must-see releases of 2026.
