A Calling Experience Without the Clatter
WhatsApp has launched a new noise reduction feature for beta users on Android version 2.26.14.1. This tool is designed to minimize unwanted background noise during both video and audio calls, making conversations noticeably clearer. If you’ve ever struggled to hear someone over city traffic, office chatter, or that persistent breeze, this update could offer real relief.
How Does It Work?
The noise reduction operates in real time, reportedly keeping your voice natural and undistorted. Even in noisy environments such as airports or busy streets, your voice can come through with improved clarity. Meta has not confirmed a specific release date for a broader rollout, but early reports suggest the feature should be especially useful for people frequently on the go.
What Gets Silenced?
According to reports from WABetaInfo, the new feature filters out background sounds like traffic and wind. A screenshot indicates that the noise reduction option appears in the call menu and is automatically enabled at the start of each call; however, users can switch it off if they prefer.
The functionality is somewhat limited: if only one person in a call has it enabled, only their outgoing audio is improved for the other side. Both participants need to have the feature activated for maximum audio clarity on both ends of the call.
Other WhatsApp Updates
Meta has also released additional features for WhatsApp. A dedicated app for Apple CarPlay is currently in beta via TestFlight. Users can now manage their storage more effectively by identifying and removing large files from chats manually, and WhatsApp supports using two accounts on the same iOS device.
After its initial debut in beta version 2.26.11.8 earlier this year, it was anticipated that noise reduction would reach all users within weeks. As of April 2026, most users can now take advantage of this upgrade, making noisy calls a thing of the past and keeping conversations sharp—because sometimes, silence really is golden.
